Urban Planners
So for the first week of this course we were asked to read fifty theses on urban planning and urban planners. but unlike what you think these were just dot point and the class was put into some groups and had to further summarise the dot points. My group had to summarise the group of "urban planners theories". Here are some of the dot point my group came up with
- Good planners care about the job, the place, and about the people within that place
- Good planners work in the interest of others such as the public/a client
- Good planners have qualities such as passion, honesty, patience, and courage
- Planners mostly do not have a lot of power and mostly advise the people who do.
- Good planners plan for both long term and short term in their plans
The strength of a good planner is also his weakness and that is: comprehensive approach.
what I think this means is that a good planner gathers every bit of information he/she might need therefore planning the best thing that they can. the reason it is also a weakness in my opinion is because can you always have all the information at your disposal and even if you do, does all the information lead to one thing or do some of them conflict with with each other?
The first week was interesting and I hope that the rest of the course is too.
See you next week, Jarrod
